Sky Germany have confirmed that 1.FC Union Berlin midfielder Rani Khedira will represent and play for Tunisia in the future.
Although born in the city of Stuttgart, Khedira's father hailed from the north African country thus enabling the switch.
Sky Germany also reports that Rani Khedira could even make his debut in March when Tunisia face Haiti in an international friendly.
The 32-year-old previously represented Germany’s youth national teams from U-15 leven all the way up to the U-19 grade.
Interestingly, the Tunisia approached Khedira to represent the nation back in 2015 but at the time he rejected the idea:
“There was a recent inquiry from the Tunisian Football Federation, but I declined. I've been playing for Germany since the U-15 level.
"I feel at home in the DFB, I grew up here and I have the German mentality. The thought of going to Tunisia never crossed my mind.”
However, with his career entering it's twilight, the mood has changed – participation in the 2026 World Cup is clearly an aim for Khedira.
His older brother, Sami, infamously featured at the 2014 edition of the competition, helping Germany to win the tournament in Brazil.
