Steffen only moved to the Weserstadion in the summer from Elversberg, and after a rough start, they then stabilised, but have struggled again and have not won a game since the 7th of November. In 21 games, Steffen averaged 0.9 points per game.

On parting ways with the head coach, managing director of football Clemens Fritz said:

“It was a difficult decision, but we no longer believe that Horst will be able to turn things around with the team after this long winless streak. This realization is naturally a heavy one, especially because we value Horst very highly, but it is the result of analyzing the sporting situation and the discussions we have recently held. Therefore, we have decided to release Horst from his duties,”

Assistant coaches Raphael Duarte and Christian Groß will take charge of Bremen on an interim basis while the club searches for a replacement.

Who can replace Steffen at Bremen?

Some of the available head coaches who could replace Steffen are the likes of Marco Rose and Edin Terzic; however, both may be too expensive, while other names, such as Thorsten Fink, who previously managed Genk in Belgium and Bo Svensson, are other options.
