Wolfsburg have announced that they have completed the signing of centre-back Mortiz Jenz from Lorient on a permanent deal.

Jenz signs a contract at Wolfsburg until 2027, Sky Germany reports that the cost for the 24-year-old is between €7-10m. On his move back to the Bundesliga, Jenz said: “I am very much looking forward to this new challenge. VfL Wolfsburg is a very ambitious club that wants to play internationally. For me, it is the perfect environment to develop myself further. I am a player who stands on the court with heart and passion and gives everything for his team and colours.”

Wolfsburg sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz also commented on the move: “Moritz is a robust and strong two-a-fight defender, who is also characterized by enormous speed and a safe passing game. Despite his young age, he has already gone through several clubs and already has international experience. We are convinced that he can take the next step in his career with us and will be an important reinforcement for our squad.”

Jenz spent last season out on loan from his parent club. The central defender spent the first half of the season on loan at Celtic before being recalled and sent on loan to Schalke for the second half. During his half-season in the Bundesliga, the 24-year-old performed well and helped sure up Schalke’s defence but it was not enough to save them from relegation.

The arrival of Jenz likely means that Wolfsburg are preparing for the departure of one of their main centre-backs with Micky van de Ven attracting interest from bigger clubs. While there are also rumours about a possible departure for Maxcene Lacroix.
