Bayern Munich have officially completed the permanent signing of 18-year-old midfielder Bara Sapoko Ndiaye from Gambian academy Gambinos Stars Africa. The Senegal international has signed a long-term contract through June 2031. According to Kicker, Bayern will pay a transfer fee significantly below €5m for the teenager.

Ndiaye initially joined the German champions on loan in January and quickly impressed Bayern’s coaching staff despite arriving without previous experience in an established league system. His progress was briefly interrupted by a capsule injury in March, but Ndiaye recovered in time to make his Bundesliga debut as a late substitute in Bayern’s 5-0 win over St. Pauli on Matchday 29.

Three further league appearances followed, including two starts.

Bara Sapoko Ndiaye takes Goretzka’s roster spot

Ndiaye now effectively occupies the central-midfield position vacated by Leon Goretzka, though Goretzka’s natural successor remains Bayern’s new No. 8 Tom Bischof. Aleksandar Pavlovic and Joshua Kimmich also remain above Ndiaye on the depth chart.  

Get German Football News reported last month that Bayern were preparing to sign Ndiaye permanently, with sporting director Christoph Freund confirming that only final details remained. One day later, GGFN examined how Ndiaye’s expected permanent arrival further reduced João Palhinha’s prospects in Munich.

Bayern’s commitment to Ndiaye has also influenced other midfield planning. Kicker reports that the decision to retain the Senegalese youngster contributed to Bayern permitting Noel Aséko to join Eintracht Frankfurt for €12m.

Ndiaye earns Senegal World Cup opportunity

Ndiaye’s rapid rise also extended to the international stage. After remaining unused throughout Senegal’s three World Cup group matches, the youngster made a surprise appearance during extra time of the Round of 32 defeat against Belgium. Senegal eventually lost 3-2 following a dramatic late penalty, but Ndiaye made a lively impression after entering the match.

“Bara is a great character who, in a very short period of time, adapted to a completely new environment at FC Bayern and quickly earned a high level of acceptance within the team,” Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund said.

“This is a very big day for me and my whole family,” Ndiaye said. “I want to learn every day from all these great players here at FC Bayern and try to help the team.”
