It was a disappointing night for OGC Nice. They began their UEFA Europa League campaign with a defeat against AS Roma at the Allianz Riviera on Wednesday night. However, their captain, Dante (41), did make history.

Dante, who announced in the summer that this season would be his final one as a professional footballer, started the encounter against the Italian side. By featuring in the game, he became the oldest outfield player in the history of the Europa League at the age of 41 years and 341 days.

The record was previously held by Joaquin, who turned out for Real Betis, against Premier League side Manchester United, in 2023. At the time, he was 41 years and seven months old. In their Europa League campaign, Le Gym will face Fenerbahce, Celta Vigo, SC Freiburg, Porto, Braga, Go Ahead Eagles, and Ludogrets. The Brazilian will hope to further extend his record.
