OGC Nice are considering signing former Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu (36) on a free transfer as back-up to Marcin Bulka (23), according to L’Équipe,
Sirigu joined PSG from Palermo back in 2011 for just under €4m, and despite a series of loan spells whilst with Les Parisiens, the Italian shotstopper went on to feature 190 times for the Ligue 1 club. He has since had spells at Torino, Genoa, Napoli and Fiorentina. Sirigu’s contract with the latter expired at the end of last season, and the former Italy international is therefore available on a free.
Nice are in the market for a backup goalkeeper after the mutual termination of Kasper Schmeichel’s (36) contract on deadline day. Six years after his departure from PSG, Sirigu could therefore make a surprise return to Ligue 1, as back-up to Bulka, whose position as first-choice is not in question.
However, Sirigu is not the only option considered, although there are internal figures pushing to bring the experienced Italian goalkeeper to the Allianz Riviera.
