OGC Nice’s fans were waiting. Le Gym’s bus rolled back into town late on Sunday night after their 3-1 defeat to FC Lorient earlier in the day. It was their sixth consecutive defeat in all competitions, and it leaves them 10th in Ligue 1, and, according to Franck Haise, their fight this season is not for Europe, but for survival in France’s top flight.
Nice’s demise has drawn an angry reaction from the club’s fans. Around 400 gathered in front of the club’s training ground to “welcome” them back from Lorient, as per Ici Azur.
Fans chanted “Move you ar*es” and called on the club’s sporting director, Florian Maurice, to resign. Fabrice Bocquet was also the subject of the fans’ ire, however, he was not on the bus, having parted ways at Nice airport. That decision has not gone down well at the club.
Unlike Bocquet and Maurice, Haise was supported by the fans. Two players in particular were also targeted: Jérémie Boga and Terem Moffi. The former is criticised for having invited Olympique de Marseille fans into the Allianz Riviera to watch last week’s 5-1 loss to their local rivals; Moffi was seen laughing and joking with members of Lorient’s hierarchy on Sunday, after the defeat, and saw his hat ripped off his head as he came off the team bus. The whole interaction lasted around an hour.
