Evann Guessand (23), following his breakthrough under Francesco Farioli last season, is having another excellent campaign for formative club OGC Nice.
The Ivory Coast international, born in Marseille, has 11 goals and eight assists in all competitions but his impact on the pitch transcends his statistics. A languid, hard-working centre-forward, he is crucial in build-up and a big asset for Nice both on and off the ball.
Le Gym may have their work cut out to keep the player beyond the end of the current campaign. Farioli sought to take Guessand with him to Ajax Amsterdam in the summer, however, Nice also had to fend off January approaches for the forward.
West Ham United’s interest has also been reported, however, Nice-Matin have now revealed that Olympique de Marseille and Aston Villa both made offers too. OM had also made a move on the player in the summer, it has been revealed. Despite growing up in Marseille, Guessand has rebuffed Les Phocéens’ interest, however, he was more open to an offer from Aston Villa.
Under contract until 2028, he preferred to see out the season with Nice, however, before taking time to make a decision on his future in the summer. In the meantime, Nice-Matin reports that Guessand is looking to finish the season strongly with Nice, currently third in Ligue 1, in order to continue to bolster his reputation across the Channel in England.
