Oihan Sancet breaks Athletic Club record vs Rayo Vallecano | OneFootball

Athletic Club star Oihan Sancet this past weekend secured a place for himself in the history books of the Basque outfit.

This comes owing to his exploits in the club’s latest outing.

Athletic marked their return to action on Sunday, welcoming Rayo Vallecano to San Mamés for a La Liga clash.

When all was said and done, Ernesto Valverde’s troops emerged on the right side of a 3-1 result, to strengthen their grip on 4th place in Spain’s top-flight.

And it was the aforementioned Sancet who proved himself the star of the show.

The Spanish international was on target to the tune of a brace against Rayo, either side of a further strike on the part of compatriot Nico Williams.

And as alluded to above, in the process, Sancet etched his name into the history books.

As per statisticians Opta:

‘Oihan Sancet has scored 15 goals in 23 games in La Liga 2024/25, the most of any Athletic Club player after his first 23 games of a season in the competition in the 21st century (Fernando Llorente, 14 in 2011/12).’
