Lyon welcomed back starters Afonso Moreira and Pavel Sulc, and with Endrick they injected purpose. Sulc finished an Endrick cut-back to put OL ahead, but Monaco wrestled control after the break and a disputed penalty compounded matters.

According to Le Progres, Endrick was tugged by Zakaria at the start of the move that brought Monaco’s spot-kick, a decision that angered the Lyon camp.

On his first start since injury at Strasbourg a month earlier, Sulc headed narrowly wide on 17 minutes. Moreira then produced a vital block to deny Akliouche on 32 minutes. Hateboer nudged the build-up before Endrick’s cut-back found Sulc to score on 42 minutes.

Goalkeeper Greif was busy, making six saves. He raced out to thwart Akliouche and kept out Balogun with his foot before the interval, then denied Ansu Fati when Monaco were ahead and saved late from Mawissa. He spared OL a heavier defeat.

Moreira offered constant movement down his flank on his return to the XI, though he understandably faded after half-time. Endrick grew into the game, still erratic at times, but unselfish in supplying the opener.

The second period exposed a permissive Lyon, frequently picked off by Monaco’s press and counters. That loss of control proved costly as momentum swung away.

Tagliafico’s discipline again wavered, a rash tackle on Camara in the opposition half earning a red card. It followed a borderline aerial clash with Akliouche, and was his second dismissal in three days after Vigo.
