Tom Davies made his return from injury in Sheffield United's 2-1 loss to Southampton midweek
Oli McBurnie and Kieffer Moore are among the players to have issued a positive response to Tom Davies’ return message to Sheffield United supporters.
The midfielder made his first appearance of the season midweek with a start in the Blades’ 2-1 loss to Southampton at Bramall Lane.
The 27-year-old sustained a fitness issue during pre-season that had kept him out of action until the end of September.
Davies featured for 69 minutes before being substituted for Alex Matos, with Chris Wilder’s side already chasing a result from the game.
Sheffield United supporters will be glad to see him back in the team, especially given their otherwise poor form to start the campaign.
Davies has expressed his delight at being able to make his comeback into the team on Tuesday night, despite the disappointing result for the Yorkshire outfit.
He thanked the fans for their support, claiming that the team are continuing to work on a way to turn around their form after a seventh loss in eight games in the Championship this year.
“So happy to be back on the pitch,” wrote Davies, via his Instagram account.
“Thank you for your support last night.
“We will keep working to get back to our best. Onto Saturday.”
A number of Davies’ teammates, both past and present, have responded to his message to show their support for him
This includes both McBurnie and Moore, who he played with at Bramall Lane before their departures.
The Welshman responded with a love eyes emoji, while McBurnie replied: “The best.”
Wilder will be hoping that Davies’ return from injury will help turn around Sheffield United’s poor form, as they continue to struggle for results.
The Blades have earned just three points from a possible 24, with a win over Oxford United remaining their sole victory.
Next up for Wilder’s side is a trip to face Hull City on 4 October in a 12.30pm kick-off at the MKM Stadium.
Davies seems to be a popular figure off the pitch at Sheffield United, so it’s no surprise he’s received so many messages welcoming him back to full fitness.
The midfielder will be important to have in the side this season, especially as they look for a quick fix to their abysmal form.
The 27-year-old’s performance midweek was quite encouraging given it was his first game for the club since the play-off final in May.
While he was unable to play the full 90, it was still great for Sheffield United to have him back in the team, and he could be a real asset for them if he stays fit.
