The Yorkshire side currently find themselves under a three-window embargo, as they failed to make loan payments to Manchester City and Aston Villa for Finley Burns and Louie Barry last season.

However, this hasn't stopped the Tigers from adding to their squad, with the likes of Semi Ajayi, John Lundstram, and McBurnie just a few of the high-profile names coming through the door.

The latter of which was the subject of a transfer battle between Hull and Championship rivals Swansea, with the embargoed side coming out victorious.

It's now come to light via Alan Nixon's Patreon page on Sunday that Hull managed to beat the Swans to the signing of the Scot, despite offering inferior terms in comparison to his former employers.

With the nature of Hull's current situation around their transfer ban, the club are unable to splash out lots of money on signing free agents or loans, which deals them a further disadvantage in the transfer market.

Or so it was thought, as the latest revelation from Nixon suggests that to beat Swansea to the signing of McBurnie, the player himself actually turned down a bigger contract offer from his former club to instead begin a new chapter at the MKM Stadium.

The Welsh side reportedly offered their former striker a 'huge deal', which included significant promotion bonuses. However, McBurnie instead chose to join Hull, despite major restrictions on what terms they could offer him.

Interestingly, Nixon also reported that another former club of McBurnie, Sheffield United, had also tabled an offer to bring him back to Bramall Lane, but this was said to be just a two-year deal on less money than he's earning at Hull.

It's been a very difficult and disappointing summer for the Tigers, who had targets lined up such as Louie Barry on a permanent deal, who they were subsequently unable to land after their transfer embargo was enforced.

However, the latest revelation from Nixon will provide a crumb of comfort for supporters of the Yorkshire club, as it proves they're still able to compete in the market with some of their Championship rivals who aren't currently under restrictions.

McBurnie's choice to join Hull instead of Swansea, who reportedly offered better terms, is a key signal that, despite the embargo that's currently hanging over the Tigers, they can still be competitive, and make the best of a bad situation.
