Bayern Munich are weighing Oliver Baumann as an experienced back-up should Manuel Neuer step aside, with Jonas Urbig earmarked as future No 1. Kicker reports the Hoffenheim goalkeeper is being discussed at Säbener Strasse for that role.

In March, Bild reported Bayern had considered moving for Baumann as a possible Neuer replacement while the captain weighed retirement. Neuer instead extended his contract by a year and the interest did not advance.

Neuer, 40, is now viewed as very likely to retire in summer 2027, and Bayern would still like a reliable deputy for the 23-year-old Urbig.

Baumann, 36, is thought to be eyeing Karl-Heinz Körbel’s Bundesliga record of 602 appearances. He is 75 short, which could be reached in just over two seasons only with regular starts, something unlikely in Munich.

Other names linked as options include Augsburg’s Finn Dahmen, 1. FC Köln’s Marvin Schwäbe, Fulham’s Bernd Leno and Hamburger SV’s Daniel Heuer Fernandes.

Before any move, Bayern want a clear signal from Neuer on how he sees his future beyond next summer.
