Oliver Glasner Man United boost as another manager target ready to reject the job | OneFootball

Manchester United have been given a boost as Oliver Glasner has announced he’ll be leaving Crystal Palace at the end of the season, but Gareth Southgate is another name on their list of manager targets.

Man Utd will surely see yesterday’s announcement by Glasner as a boost to their hopes of hiring him, but the Daily Mirror report that Southgate also remains one of the candidates for the job.

Still, the former England manager was also previously linked with the Red Devils back in October, and the Mirror said at the time that he was leaning towards rejecting their interest.

Southgate was not in a hurry to return to football management at that time, but it remains to be seen if his stance may have changed since then.

Oliver Glasner favourite for Man United job, but who else could be in the frame?

Glasner seems like a strong candidate for the United vacancy after doing such an impressive job at Palace in recent times.

The Austrian tactician won the FA Cup and Community Shield with the Eagles, giving them their first ever pieces of silverware as a club.

Still, it’s a very different environment at United, with so much more pressure to succeed straight away and to play a certain style of football.

Southgate might in some ways be better equipped for that after spending so long in another extremely high-pressure job with England.

Other names will also surely come into the frame, such as current England boss Thomas Tuchel, even if our understanding is that Glasner is the heavy favourite.

Michael Carrick starts as interim manager – can he keep the job permanently?

Former MUFC midfielder Michael Carrick will take charge of his first game for United today as they take on Manchester City at Old Trafford.

The 44-year-old did a decent job during a spell in charge of Middlesbrough, but overall he’s probably an outsider for the full time role as he’s inexperienced at the very highest level.

It will be interesting to see, however, what kind of impact Carrick can have at United after another former player in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer previously earned himself the job after initially performing so well as interim manager.
