Oliver Glasner used his first Nottingham Forest press conference to set a realistic yet ambitious tone, stressing stability and untapped potential rather than instant fixes after being unveiled as head coach.

According to Nottingham Post, a seafood dinner with owner Evangelos Marinakis in Greece convinced the Austrian to accept, despite interest from elsewhere in Europe, and he had aimed to remain in the Premier League after leaving Crystal Palace at the end of last season.

Over about 70 minutes at the City Ground on Thursday, he outlined demands on players and touched on club history and rivalry. He said consistency and stability, reflected in a three-year deal, are the base for success. He is the club’s fifth head coach in a year.

He mixed good humour with candour, admitting there is no magic button for progress, and even laughed about underestimating the sun after a two and a half hour session on Wednesday, having now asked for factor 50.

After the photographs he greeted each attendee back inside, and he recounted texting Marc Guehi for his birthday this week, with the Manchester City defender, away with England at the World Cup, wishing him luck in finding another club before realising his former boss had taken the Forest job.

Glasner built a reputation at Palace for speaking his mind, describing honesty as non-negotiable, and his haul there, the FA Cup, Community Shield and UEFA Conference League, offers Forest a glimpse of what could follow if potential is realised.
