Legendary Germany and Bayern Munich goalkeeper Oliver Kahn has enquired about purchasing National 2 side Girondins de Bordeaux, according to a report this Thursday from Sud-Ouest. The outlet understands that former Olympique de Marseille president Jacques-Henri Eyraud got in touch, on behalf of Kahn, with current Bordeaux owner Gérard Lopez, over the conditions of a possible club takeover. Les Marine et Blanc are in financial limbo, having filed for bankruptcy and even went close to judicial liquidation. In the summer, Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group pulled out of a deal to purchase the club from Lopez.
Kahn notably told German outlet Kicker last August he would be ready to invest in a football club, after being dismissed from his position as Bayern Munich CEO in 2023. Sud-Ouest adds that Kahn’s entourage emphasizes that the former goalkeeper’s interest in Bordeaux is still in its infancy. However, the outlet mentions that Eyraud’s takeover talks with Lopez were positive enough for the former Marseille president to enter further talks with the City of Bordeaux.
