Tottenham are gaining confidence in the WSL according to Olivia Holdt and with Chelsea coming up next, the club’s return to form couldn’t have come at a better time.
Holdt was on the scoresheet again for Spurs on Sunday as they edged past Leicester in the WSL.
After their win against Leicester on Sunday, Spurs have now won three of their four league games this season.
The North-London side have only lost once this season with a damning defeat coming to Manchester City on matchday 3.
Olivia Holdt was once again the hero for Tottenham with her early goal securing all three points for Spurs.
“We gained a lot of confidence from this game.” Holdt said. “Especially because I think last season it probably wouldn’t have been the same outcome so it’s really important. We were up 2–1, they put us under a lot of pressure at the end, but we stuck to our plan and got the win.”
Holdt scored the game’s second goal which put Spurs out of sight against the Foxes.
Her goal was the Danish forward’s second goal in as many games after she grabbed a consolation against Manchester City the week before.
“It was nice to see the ball go in and I’m happy to help the team with goals and assists – but, most importantly, with the three points,” she continued.
Despite the win against Leicester, Spurs fullback Ash Neville recognised that the win was anything but easy.
Tottenham couldn’t have made a return to form at any better time this season.
Martin Ho’s side face off against reigning champions Chelsea on Friday night in what is their biggest clash of the season so far.
Should Tottenham cause an upset in the London derby, the WSL table would take a huge shakeup heading into matchday 6.
A win for Spurs would propel them up the table and level on points with Chelsea who currently still have their 100% record in the league.
Ho recognised after the Leicester game that Tottenham have taken a ‘big step forward’ but Chelsea represents a completely different proposition.
The Blues are unbeaten in 29 WSL games dating back to May 2024.
