Olivier Giroud was forced off with a left-knee injury during Lille’s final pre-season match at Everton on Saturday.

According to L'Équipe, the 2018 World Cup winner, 39 and captain of LOSC, was hurt in a collision with Iliman Ndiaye at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in Liverpool.

The clash occurred in the 15th minute. Giroud tried to continue but the pain was too much.

He sat down in the 23rd minute, then limped off looking concerned, and was replaced by 19-year-old forward Soriba Diaoune.

Ndiaye later opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 41st minute.

The former France striker has 137 caps and 57 goals for Les Bleus, and turns 40 on 30 September.
