Olivier Létang could face LFP fine after outburst following PSG draw | OneFootball

According to L'Équipe, the LFP disciplinary commission will examine Olivier Létang’s latest clash with referees on Wednesday and could opt for a fine, possibly with a short suspension.

The Lille president reacted furiously after PSG made it 2-2 at LOSC on 28 August, the equaliser arriving beyond stoppage time. The Conseil national de l’éthique then referred the case, citing his post-match comments and a series of messages, some aggressive, sent to refereeing chief Antony Gautier with FFF and LFP leaders copied.

A repeat offender in disputes with officials, Létang had already been sanctioned for similar conduct. In January he received a two-month ban for behaviour towards the same referee, Éric Wattellier, at half-time of Lille-Rennes, which finished 0-2 after Alexsandro’s 13th-minute dismissal. On that occasion he branded the decision a disgrace and a scandal.

Over the summer the commission shifted strategy towards club executives, favouring heavy fines over long suspensions that have limited effect. Suspended presidents can still attend matches, unlike players.

Avoiding a lengthy ban would be significant for Létang, who sits on the LFP board and chairs the Ligue 1 college. He cannot carry out those roles while suspended.

Around Lille, the view is that the real issue is whether his long-standing questions about refereeing can be heard and discussed. They argue the focus should be on dialogue between clubs, the refereeing department and the authorities, on understanding decisions and recognising disagreements.
