Pierre Sage’s exit from RC Lens has not yet been officialised, but it looks to be a matter of time. As per L’Équipe and RMC Sport, he has already informed the Ligue 1 side of his impending departure amid talks with Crystal Palace. It is expected that he will succeed Oliver Glasner at Selhurst Park in the coming days.
Lens, therefore, are, for the third consecutive summer, in the market for a new manager. The search for Sage’s successor has already begun and a shortlist is being established, as per L’Équipe. It is understood that Olivier Pantaloni, who opted against renewing at FC Lorient and who is therefore on the market, is an option.
His appointment would allow Pantaloni to link up again with Yannick Cahuzac, who leaves Lorient to become the assistant at Lens for this season. He is seen as a future first-team coach, but must first earn his badges, which he will do during the upcoming season.
Le Mans’ Patrick Videira is also an option. He excelled last season, leading the club into Ligue 1. Alexandre Dujeux, whose exit from SCO Angers has been confirmed, is also admired, but Sébastien Pocognoli, who was considered last summer, may be out of reach. Despite being relieved of his duties at AS Monaco, his wage demands are thought to be too high.
