Loïc Ferry, the president of FC Lorient, has confirmed in an interview with Ouest France that Olivier Pantaloni will continue in his role as head coach after leading Les Merlus back to Ligue 1 at the first time of asking.
After being relegated last season from the top flight, Lorient assured their stay in Ligue 2 was short with a 4-0 victory over SM Caen on the 26th of April. Pantaloni has a well-earned reputation for masterminding promotions, having led AC Ajaccio to Ligue 1 on two occasions.
Despite the overall goal for the season being completed, the campaign is not over, and Lorient have their sights set on winning the league. Paris FC sit in second place (and could win promotion tonight against strugglers FC Martigues), three points behind Lorient with only two matches left to play.
For Pantaloni, the hunt for a league title will be somewhat personal, as he has missed out on the trophy twice with his Ajaccio sides finishing as runners-up in their promotion campaigns. Tonight, he returns to Corsica, with Lorient playing his former team.
