On Tuesday night, FC Barcelona take on Olympiacos in their match of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League group phase at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.

The Blaugrana have a 50-50 record in the competition so far, having first beaten Newcastle United 2-1 before losing to PSG by the same scoreline.

As such, Hansi Flick & co. will be intent on returning to winning ways in the Champions League and aiming to collect all three points against the Greek giants, who won the UEFA Europa Conference League last season.

And, Olympiacos head coach Jose Luis Mendilibar’s record against Barcelona bodes well for the Catalan club.

Mendilibar has struggled against Barcelona

Indeed, Mendilibar has not had much joy whenever he has faced Barcelona as manager, having managed just the one victory in 27 meetings.

Mendilibar has faced Barça 27 times while in charge of seven different Spanish clubs: Athletic Club, Real Valladolid, Osasuna, Levante, Eibar, Deportivo Alaves, and Sevilla.

Across those encounters, he has suffered 23 defeats and earned only three draws. His sole victory came during the 2011/12 season, when his Osasuna side defeated Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona 3-2 in Pamplona.

As for the three draws, they were as follows: Valladolid 1-1 Barcelona (2007/08), Eibar 2-2 Barcelona (2018/19), and Barcelona 1-1 Eibar (2020/21).

Two of the 23 losses that Mendilibar has suffered against Barça came in the Copa del Rey, while the rest of them were in La Liga.

Meanwhile, this will only be Olympiacos’ third meeting with Barcelona in any competition. The last time the two teams faced each other was in the group stages of the 2017/18 Champions League – with the Catalans winning the home leg 3-1 and drawing 0-0 away.
