A 2-0 preseason win will not define Olympiacos’ first campaign, but this match is more informative than the spectacular 10-0 opening friendly.
Olympiada provided a more realistic environment for Tasos Fleggas to experiment with combinations, and Olympiacos still managed to score in both halves while keeping a clean sheet. The club explicitly noted that the coaching staff used multiple trials and personnel changes, which makes the result useful primarily as a development checkpoint rather than a statement of competitive strength.
The XI featured Mougiou, Xylouri, Giannou, Georgoula, Mylona, Atako, Ioannidi, Larsson, Kolemba, Katsanou and Matzana, with Logou, Veniamin and Tzani also receiving minutes.
The player to note from this match is Giannou, who supplied the Olympiacos goal before an own goal completed the scoring.
The early priority is establishing relationships with the new players and identifying which combinations survive when the opposition becomes more competitive.
Olympiacos have now progressed from a 10-goal first friendly to a controlled 2-0 result while continuing to rotate personnel. That is a healthier preseason progression than simply accumulating lopsided scorelines.
