Olympique Lyonnais confirmed on Thursday afternoon the signing of 17-year-old midfielder Cluver Sambi Mbungu from Caen on a first professional contract running to 2029. The club said in a post that the deal is for three years.
The Michele Kang-led side have landed a notable development signing, with the highly rated teenager previously targeted by PSG.
Mbungu impressed last season with Caen’s reserves in National 3, making 19 appearances and scoring 3 goals. Congolese by nationality, he was born in Kinshasa, moved to France at 2, and was recruited from SPN Vernon.
He opted for Lyon’s project over staying in Normandy and over several elite suitors, with PSG pushing until the last moment. Other European clubs, including Leipzig and Dortmund, were also in the race.
He will initially join the Pro2 group led by Gueïda Fofana. Lyon have already added Boudache, Bidstrup, Duranville and Ouédraogo earlier this summer.
