OM and OL renew rivalry with Champions League race in focus

OM face OL at the Stade Vélodrome on Sunday at 20:45, a modern Olympico between two ambitious sides chasing direct Champions League qualification.

According to Le Progres, OL sit third, five points ahead of OM in fourth, and are content to let more of the pressure rest on their hosts.

Beyond any single night in Marseille or Lyon, the Olympico is the story of a long rivalry between two of France’s leading clubs, driven by different approaches and a genuine edge.

Neither has lifted a trophy for 14 years. Their last honours came in 2012, when Marseille won the Coupe de la Ligue against OL, and OL claimed the Coupe de France.

The wait has grown long for supporters, patience tending to be greater in Lyon than on the Mediterranean coast. Yet in 2026, ambition remains on both sides.
