Marseille head to Le Havre on Sunday at 21:00 under fresh off-field turmoil, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang omitted after a fire extinguisher incident during a residential camp. According to L'Équipe, the mood has darkened before a decisive night for Habib Beye’s side.
Last weekend’s 0-3 defeat at Nantes saw club fixer Bob Tahri hurry the delegation out of La Beaujoire. After last season’s “Sans jamais rien lâcher” mantra, this campaign has unravelled.
On Thursday, during the fourth and final night at the Commanderie, Tahri, tasked with enforcing curfew, was sprayed with an extinguisher, along with his bed and belongings. Aubameyang led the prank, with other senior players present, then apologised to Tahri and the hierarchy, yet he has been left out of the trip. The episode, which angered Tahri, reached interim president Alban Juster and incoming Stéphane Richard, and involved a close aide of director of football Medhi Benatia.
The club ended the residential camp on Friday to ease pressure. Players had expected to remain confined until returning from Normandy, which helps explain an improvised party as the punishment expired. Inside the camp, it was framed as a bout of team bonding.
Beye cut a terse figure on Friday, saying he wants a side that looks alive and plays together at Stade Océane. He described doing a different job, part psychologist, part policeman, part summer-camp director, one that is draining. Targets have made way for pride and self-respect, and he stressed that showing a better image now matters.
