On has moved into football with Kylian Mbappé becoming a shareholder and global ambassador on a 10-year deal, ending his 20-year Nike tie-up.
According to Le Progres, the Zurich-based brand, founded in 2010, framed the move as the start of its journey in the world’s biggest sport, a surprising play for a still relatively unknown name next to Nike, Adidas and Puma.
The company was created by former professional triathlete Olivier Bernhard with David Allemann and Caspar Coppetti. It first made its name in running, then moved into tennis and later lifestyle, while cultivating a high-end image.
Roger Federer became a co-owner in 2019, helping drive its tennis push. Thierry Henry has been named director of football after working with the brand behind the scenes since late 2025.
Mbappé, the fourth most-followed footballer on Instagram behind Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Neymar, said he was attracted by the chance to build something entirely new together that will help shape tomorrow’s game.
On is leaning on innovations such as LightSpray, a process that assembles boots without glue to reduce weight. The first pair of such football boots, to be used by the 27-year-old Frenchman, is expected in 2027.
The task is daunting in a market where Nike and Adidas each equipped more than 40% of players at the 2026 World Cup, with around 10% for Puma. Brands like Under Armour and New Balance have not managed to shift that order.
