Ruben Amorim backed his goalkeeper Andre Onana after another error in his side’s midweek Europa League win over Viktoria Plzen but says he must work on cutting out his mistakes.
Onana made a costly mistake in his side’s Premier League defeat to Nottingham Forest last week, failing to keep out Morgan Gibbs-White’s long-range shot.
He was at fault again when he gave away the ball in the box against Viktoria Plzen which led to a goal, before Rasmus Hojlund scored twice to spare his blushes.
“We have to take it as it is,” Amorim said of his goalkeeper, ahead of the Manchester derby on Sunday.
“He already had, in the past, some situations like that so we have to work on this.
“If you see our play, we are trying to build up a lot with the goalkeeper, making the bounce with Mathjis (de Ligt) a lot of times, and this time we have a disconnect a little but during the play and when we try this, we suffer a goal, a difficult goal for us.
“But we managed, not like against Nottingham Forest, to help Onana like he did in the past for us.”
