One Barcelona star has an excellent scoring record against Rayo Vallecano – Report

FC Barcelona have done very well so far this season to still be fighting in both La Liga and the Champions League. Pedri has been a protagonist for the entire team and he has managed to recover full fitness in the past few games.

The Canary Islander may not always be the first name fans associate with scoring bursts, but Rayo Vallecano have become one of his favourite opponents. Ahead of this latest meeting, Barcelona have every reason to hope the midfielder can again make a difference against a side he has already hurt several times.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Pedri has scored three goals against Rayo, which makes them one of the teams he has punished most in his Barca career, alongside Girona and Levante. That is a notable return for a player whose game is usually defined more by control and tempo than by pure numbers.

Two of those goals came in May 2024 in Barcelona’s 3-0 win at Montjuic, when Pedri struck twice in one of his sharpest attacking displays. His other goal against Rayo came at Vallecas in a 2-1 Barca victory, which only strengthens the sense that this is a matchup he reads especially well.

Rayo can make games awkward, physical and rushed, so having a midfielder who has repeatedly found solutions against them is a genuine advantage and Pedri is just that. There is, however, a bit of context around Pedri’s condition and minutes.

Pedri has only completed the full 90 minutes in four of Barcelona’s 20 matches in 2026, largely because of physical interruptions during the season. He did, though, play the full match in the Champions League second leg against Newcastle, so he comes into this game with rhythm.

That is where Flick’s decision becomes interesting. He could choose to rest Pedri to manage his minutes against Rayo Vallecano but with the international break right around the corner, the German manager might just end up starting him.

It remains to be seen if the talented Spanish midfielder can add to his existing tally against Rayo Vallecano at the Spotify Camp Nou tomorrow.
