Nico O’Reilly’s impressive form has seen him earn his first cap for England. The City youngster made his debut for his country during England’s 2-nil win over Serbia earlier this week. He showed that he is right at home playing for his country as he is playing for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Nico O’Reilly has graduated from being a key player for Manchester City to an England international.

Manchester City youngster Nico O’Reilly started at left-back during England’s 2-nil win over Serbia at Wembley. The City youngster definitely wasn’t overawed by the occasion. The fact that he immediately slotted into Thomas Tuchel’s side with ease is a credit to Nico O’Reilly and his education at Manchester City’s academy. Outside of how we he slotted into the England lineup, Nico O’Reilly’s performance showed that he has every opportunity to make the left-back position his own for his country.

The calm and poise in possession that is synonymous with O’Reilly’s game stood out against Serbia. He completed 41/44 passes as he helped England dominate Serbia. The City youngster got forward when he could as he played a similar role for England to the one he plays for City. Defensively, Nico O’Reilly was solid and he went about his defensive duties with minimal fuss. Nico O’Reilly made an impressive debut for England and with the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, he has every chance to make the left-back spot his own for his country as he has for Manchester City.

In an interview relayed on mancity.com, Nico O’Reilly expressed his pride at earning his first cap for England. He also revealed that playing for his country for the first time was a proud moment for his family. Speaking on how it felt to make his England debut at Wembley, O’Reilly said: “I’m over the moon. It was a very special night making my debut. It was a dream come true for me and my family. I want to thank everyone who has helped me get here. My mum, stepdad, sister, for them to watch me play here at Wembley is a crazy feeling.

Nico O’Reilly has had an impressive beginning to the 25/26 season. His strong form for Manchester City has now seen him become an England international. There is no reason why Nico O’Reilly cannot become England’s first-choice left-back heading into the 2026 World Cup. To do that he’ll have to continue his strong form for City and if he does that Pep Guardiola’s side will continue to be the beneficiary of Nico O’Reilly’s meteoric rise.
