One Manchester City star is consistently doing the unprecedented

Erling Haaland scored his 50th goal in the UEFA Champions League in his 49th appearance in the competition during Manchester City’s 2-nil win over Napoli on Thursday evening. In the process, Haaland became the fastest player in the history of the Champions League to score 50 goals. It has almost become a weekly occurrence to see Haaland smash a record of some description. During his time at Manchester City, he has scored goals at an almost unprecedented level. It almost feels like Haaland’s feats aren’t given the appreciation they deserve, as the focus tends to shift to what the Norwegian international cannot do. But what he can do is score goals, and he does that at a rate almost never seen before.

Erling Haaland has once again smashed another record.

To score 50 goals in 49 games is an absurd statistic. For Erling Haaland to do it in the Champions League makes it an even more absurd statistic. The Champions League is the pinnacle of European football. To score goals at such a ridiculous level against Europe’s top teams speaks volumes. It further illustrates the goalscoring process of Haaland. That attribute alone makes Haaland an invaluable weapon for Manchester City.

Speaking after Manchester City’s win, and Erling Haaland’s 50th Champions League goal, Phil Foden had special praise for Manchester City’s number-nine. The England international says it seems like Haaland is smashing a record every week. He added that if Haaland remains fit and hungry, he could smash every goalscoring record on offer. Foden told the media after Manchester City’s win over Napoli: “He seems to break every record going. At his age, as well, it’s unheard of what he’s done. I don’t think anyone’s going to break the records he’s going to break if he carries on playing the way he is.

Pep Guardiola echoed the sentiments of Phil Foden when asked about Erling Haaland’s latest record-breaking feat. Speaking on Haaland’s 50th Champions League goal, Guardiola said: “What can I say? The numbers speak for themselves. How lucky and fortunate we are to have him, and just congratulate him because in terms of goals, it’s not just van Nistelrooy but Lewandowski, and especially Cristiano (Ronaldo) and Messi. Erling is there.”

In terms of goals, he’s unbelievable.”

Haaland has become a more well-rounded player at Manchester City.

Erling Haaland’s goalscoring prowess is well-documented. That attribute is the one that makes Haaland a standout player. Even if Haaland didn’t improve as a player, he’d remain the most lethal striker in world football. But based on the evidence of this season,  Haaland is becoming a more well-rounded player. That is a positive for Manchester City and a concern for Manchester City’s rivals.

Erling Haaland’s performance last Sunday in Manchester City’s 3-nil win over Manchester United showed the growth in Haaland’s game. He led from the front for his team. Haaland led Manchester City’s high press and helped out defensively when required. He also dropped deep to receive possession and would have had an assist in the second half if Tijjani Reijnders didn’t put the chance Haaland created away. Haaland’s brace was the icing on the cake last Sunday. But that performance perfectly illustrated that Haaland is growing as a player.

Erling Haaland continues to do the unprecedented. Scoring 50 goals in 49 Champions League appearances is another ridiculous feat Haaland has performed. Haaland has now entered the prime years of his career and is still improving as a player. With that being the case it is unlikely that the record Haaland broke against Napoli will be the last that will fall.
