Matt Crooks settled it in the 73rd minute with a right-footed finish into the bottom right corner, giving Hull City a 1-0 win at Portsmouth.
Introduced just after the hour, Crooks found a pocket in the centre of the box and guided his shot low into the far corner (73.). It was a ruthless touch at the key moment.
He then helped Hull manage the game out, snapping into duels and breaking up play. The midfielder won all three of his tackles and regained possession six times as Portsmouth pressed.
His impact was all about efficiency. Crooks took one attempt and scored, while Hull registered only two attempts across the match. That single clinical moment tilted a contest in which Portsmouth had 21 attempts and the bulk of the ball.
With Hull's compact shape inviting pressure, his late run from midfield provided the extra man between the lines that Portsmouth failed to track.
Hull rise from fifth to third in the Championship and visit Ipswich Town next. Portsmouth stay 19th and go to Blackburn Rovers next.
How high would you rate Crooks' cameo today?
