Blues have enjoyed a massively exciting period of time across the last few years, which has seen them go from Championship strugglers to possessing one of the most exciting projects in the English game.

Knighthead Capital Management first bought into Birmingham in 2023 and made their intentions clear almost immediately. Despite dropping down to League One, the Second City side were backed tremendously in the transfer market and quickly unleashed an assault on the division.

After securing promotion back up to the Championship in record-breaking fashion, Blues recruited heavily in the summer once more and look to be in a position to fight for a top-six finish this season.

Plans for a new 62,000-seat stadium were recently revealed, adding further excitement for the St. Andrew’s faithful about what the future may have in store for them. Another intriguing element for Blues fans in recent times has been the involvement of Tom Brady within their club.

The NFL icon became a minority stakeholder in the club two years ago and has been an important promotional tool for Birmingham in the US, as they look to increase their appeal to that audience.

Whilst much is known about Brady’s achievements within the world of American Football, there are some facts that will be less familiar to a large portion of Birmingham’s fanbase.

One such topic is the 48-year-old’s unique diet, which may shock some people.

The food Brady eats is largely plant-based and he follows an 80/20 rule of roughly 80 per cent alkaline and plant-based foods like vegetables, fruits, nuts, and seeds, and 20% lean animal protein.

In months outside of the cold winters in America, that could even stretch further towards 90 per cent, which emphasises how important it is for his preparation and life in general.

Brady does avoid strawberries though, purely because he doesn’t like the smell.

This diet places a huge emphasis on hydration, as the former NFL hero drinks half his body weight in ounces of water daily. There are also certain foods he avoids and completely cuts out of the diet, such as white flour, white sugar, and nightshade vegetables (tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms, eggplant).

Naturally, there is no room for stimulants such as Caffeine or Alcohol in this diet, as Brady constantly aims to prepare himself in the most optimal way to attack life.

The Birmingham City co-owner doesn’t consume processed foods and chooses to only eat things that have natural ingredients.

Furthermore, he finishes eating when feeling 75 per cent full, as it allows him to digest food much more easily.

The foods he has excluded are supposed to increase the likelihood of inflammation, which isn’t what an athlete needs at the top of his game.

With this in mind, Brady has optimised his diet to make sure he avoids anything that can prevent him from achieving his goals.

Tom Brady’s diet is an example his elite mentality

Brady is known around the world for being one of sport’s most successful athletes and for good reason too.

He won a record-breaking seven Super Bowls during his time in the NFL and is widely considered the greatest quarterback of all time.

Every minute detail that goes into an athlete’s preparation can pay dividends on the pitch, which is exactly why the highest performing sportsmen are the ones who train the hardest.

Restricting himself to such a unique diet must have been tough for Brady at times, but it allowed him to gain a slight edge over his rivals, which is why he is remembered so fondly.

Although football is a different sport, Birmingham City will no doubt benefit from having direct access to such an elite mentality and it could allow their players to gain a similar advantage over the other 23 Championship sides.
