Kylian Mbappe is within touching distance of a new record. On the day he turns 27 and in Real Madrid’s final match of 2025, the French megastar can equal or surpass the historic record set by Cristiano Ronaldo in 2013 while wearing the white shirt.

Back in 2013, the Portuguese maverick scored a whopping 59 goals with Real Madrid from 50 matches, registering six hat-tricks and also providing 14 assists.

In the process, Cristiano set an all-time record for the most number of goals scored by a Los Blancos player in a single calendar year.

Now, Mbappe currently stands on 58 goals from 58 matches – and needs only two goals to go past Cristiano and make the record his own.

So far this year, the Frenchman, who is celebrating his 27th birthday today, has bagged five hat-tricks, while also chipping in with five assists.

Mbappe has already gone beyond the tally of 53 goals Cristiano scored for Real Madrid in 2011, the 54 in 2015 and the 56 in 2014, and has equalled the 58 he scored in 2012.

He began the year with an early goal, scored in the fifth minute of the Spanish Super Cup final against Barcelona in January, and reached 58 goals with a brace in Talavera last Wednesday in Real Madrid’s first Copa del Rey match of the season.

The forward has scored 10 goals in his last six matches, although he did not play against Manchester City due to muscle discomfort.

Now, the France captain, who arrived in 2024 as a free agent from PSG, has his sights on the ultimate record, which is well within reach.

With kickoff against Sevilla just an hour away, Mbappe will be raring to score a brace and go past Cristiano to become the player with the most goals scored in a single year for Real Madrid.

Mbappe has scored two goals in two encounters against Sevilla so far, and will need to double that tally tonight to achieve that record.
