Cardiff are on the hunt for a new manager following the sacking of Erol Bulut, who was dismissed last month after his side picked up just one point from their first six league games of the season.

Omer Riza has been in caretaker charge of the Bluebirds since Bulut's exit, and the 44-year-old has made no secret of his desire to land the job on a permanent basis.

Riza has inspired an upturn in fortunes in recent weeks, and it has been claimed that he will remain at the helm after the international break, but it seems the club are considering making an external appointment.

It is a big decision facing the Bluebirds board with the club currently sitting bottom of the table, three points from safety, and while an appointment does not appear to be imminent, Lowe has suggested that he would be interested in taking over at the Cardiff City Stadium.

When asked about rumours linking him with Cardiff, Lowe revealed that he would be open to speaking to the Bluebirds about their vacant managerial position, describing it as an attractive job.

"I can't say nothing that you don't already know," Lowe said, speaking on Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday.

"What I will say is that Cardiff City is a fantastic football club and very attractive to any manager who is out of work.

"They have a great fan base and they're probably in a false position because they've got some quality players, they've got a fantastic youth system as well.

"So it's an attractive job for not just myself, but I'm sure Gary (Rowett) is the same and any other manager out of work, that you'd be open to speak to them of course, definitely."

Lowe has been out of work since leaving Preston North End in August after just one game of the new season, admitting that he felt it was "the right time to move on" after two-and-a-half years at Deepdale.

The 46-year-old led the Lilywhites to two top half finishes in the Championship during his time in charge, and he has previously had spells at Bury and Plymouth Argyle, achieving promotion from League Two with both clubs.

Ryan Lowe would be a sensible appointment for Cardiff City

The fact that Lowe did not shut down the speculation linking him with the Cardiff job suggests that he is keen to take over in South Wales, but it remains to be seen whether the interest is mutual.

While the end of Lowe's time at Preston was disappointing, he did a decent job at Deepdale overall, and the Lilywhites were frequently among the play-off contenders under his guidance before falling away in the latter stages of the season.

Bluebirds supporters may not be excited by the potential appointment of Lowe, and it is fair to say that, of the names linked, Mowbray and Schumacher would be better options, but he would certainly be less of a risk than the likes of Makelele or Selles.
