On Wednesday evening, Spurs will play their biggest game of the 24/25 campaign so far, as they host Liverpool in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals. This is the club's first semi-final in three years, since they reached this stage of the same competition.
The season that tomorrow's visitors are having is well documented. They are top of the Premier League, and are also in top spot in this season's league phase of the Champions League, where they are the only team to win all of their first six games. It has been a nearly flawless start to life on Merseyside for Arne Slot.
So far, Liverpool have won 14 of their 19 games in the Premier League. One of those was against Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium just a couple of weeks ago, as they ran out 6-3 winners in a crazy game.
However, their most recent game was one of the five games they have not won, as they were held to a 2-2 draw at home to arch rivals Manchester United, who could have even won the game on another day. In that game, we saw some of their weaknesses exposed - but what were they?
The clear issue for Liverpool is at full-back. At left-back, Andy Robertson is not the player he was a few years ago, neither defensively nor offensively. At right-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold has been pretty good this season, but had an absolute nightmare in the draw against United, with many fans and commentators suggesting the highly talked about potential move to Real Madrid playing on his mind.
Then, there is the midfield. Whilst Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch are both having fine seasons, neither of them are pure defensive midfielders, and sometimes it can show. We saw James Maddison successfuly press Mac Allister for his goal against Liverpool last month, so it is quite a shame he (and Pape Sarr) are suspended for this one.
The reality is that is about in in terms of weaknesses go. They are having the season they are having for a reason, so Spurs are going to need minimum of 8/10 performances all over the pitch to stand a chance here, and particularly in the second leg at Anfield.
In terms of strengths, there aren't many more things to say about Mohamed Salah, who is having maybe the best season of his illustrious career so far. In the Premier League alone, he has scored 18 goals and provided 13 assists in just 19 games. He has also created 15 big chances.
At the back, Virgil Van Dijk has been as colossal as ever, and if it was not for his performance, they would have certainly lost against United. His partner, Ibrahima Konate, came back from injury for that game. On the left hand side, Cody Gakpo is having his most productive season for the club so far, with six league goals and four Carabao Cup goals so far.
Liverpool's route to the semi-final: 5-1 win against West Ham United (H), 3-2 win vs Brighton and Hove Albion (A), and a 2-1 win against Southampton (A). Definitely not the same as 2-1 vs Coventry City (A), 2-1 vs Manchester City (H), and 4-3 vs United (H), but they are here and that is the tough reality of the situation for Spurs.
