RED BULL ARENA, LEIPZIG (Bulinews): Willi Orban was delighted to score the winning goal as RB Leipzig defeated SC Freiburg 2-0 at Red Bull Arena on Wednesday night in their first game of the year.

After a first half with very few chances, the Hungarian centre-back provided the breakthrough for Leipzig, rising to head in David Raum’s pinpoint free kick early in the second half.

Speaking to Bulinews.com and the rest of the accredited media in the mixed zone after the game, Orban admitted that the goal was liberating for a Leipzig side that hadn’t been at their best in the opening 45 minutes.

“After a relatively long winter break, we were missing a bit of dynamism, deep runs and the ability to break through in the first half. But we stayed patient and were very solid defensively, and then a set piece provided the breakthrough we needed,” Orban said.

“David (Raum) delivered a really good ball,” he added, reflecting on his opener.

“It was an important goal because it had been a tough game with very few attempts on target up until that moment.”

Orban and Leipzig will now turn their attention to Saturday’s top-of-the-table clash with Bayern Munich.
