On-loan Pirates star impresses in Africa

Orlando Pirates loanee Miguel Devi Viera, also known as Gilberto, has opened his 2025/26 account in the Girabola.

The 24-year-old forward broke the deadlock with a bullet header in the opening four minutes of the match.

Former Cape Town City striker Jo Paciencia doubled the lead in the 25th minute as Petro de Luanda secured a 2-1 victory over Bravos do Maquis in their season opener.

The Angolan giants are in second place on the Girabola standings, level on three points with log leaders CRD Libolo, who have a superior goal difference.

With a healthy 3-0 aggregate lead, Petro will now shift their focus to the second leg of their CAF Champions League first preliminary round tie against Mauritius champions Cercle de Joachim SC.

Meanwhile, for the on-loan Bucs winger, the goal will be a confidence boost, having already lifted the Angolan Super Cup at the expense of Kabuscorp SCP earlier this month.

Furthermore, upon his return to Luanda after a difficult spell in the lucrative Betway Premiership, Gilberto won the Girabola with Petro in May.

Now, the Angolan international will be eager to maintain form and momentum with his loan deal set to run until December 2025.
