England head coach Sarina Wiegman has opted to hand a surprise call-up to Orlando Pride goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse ahead of this month’s UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 qualifying double-header against The Republic of Ireland and Sweden.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official press release from The Football Association this morning.

Former Arsenal and West Ham United keeper Moorhouse is being called up into the England squad for the very first time. She will link-up with fellow goalkeepers Mary Earps, Hannah Hampton and Khiara Keating in the current Lionesses squad at St George’s Park on 8 July 2024.

England travel to The Netherlands today for a preparation camp. The Lionesses are set to take on the Dutch in a behind-closed-doors friendly match on Thursday. Wiegman’s side will then resume their UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 qualifying campaign with fixtures against The Republic of Ireland and Sweden later this month.

In other squad news, it has been confirmed that both goalkeeper Earps and full-back Charles will travel with the team to The Netherlands. Both players have been carrying injuries but will continue their rehabilitation with the Lionesses. Georgia Stanway will link-up with the England squad next week while Kayla Rendell, Lotte Wubben-Moy and Lauren James will not be part of the group this month as they continue to recover from injuries at club.

England face The Republic of Ireland at Carrow Road in Norwich on Friday 12 July 2024 before ending their UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 qualifying campaign with a fixture against Sweden in Gothenburg on Tuesday 16 July 2024.
