Tottenham rejected bids for their midfielder Lucas Bergvall in January, and Chelsea were one of the teams interested.

David Ornstein has just dropped some mid-February transfer news, with Chelsea a big part of the story.

According to the Athletic’s transfer man, the Blues were one of the teams who made a January attempt to try and sign Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall in January.

Thomas Frank’s usage of the Swede out wide, as well a generally diminished role, led to increased interested from across the Premier League.

“His situation alerted suitors in England and further afield, with Chelsea and Aston Villa among the 20-year-old’s long-term admirers,” Ornstein wrote in his piece today.

Chelsea “made direct contact” with Spurs over a move, but were told there was no chance.

Now that Frank is gone, it seems unlikely that our interest goes much further. Whoever is appointed as the permanent Spurs boss in the summer will surely see former club player of the year Bergvall as a key part of their plans going forward.

Unless things continue to deteriorate there and the 20 year old starts pushing for a move, it looks likely the window for trying for him has closed. Given his current contract runs until 2031, it would be very expensive to prise him away if Spurs aren’t willing sellers.

Still, now we know we’re interested, we will be keeping an eye on his situation for sure…

In other news…

Chelsea are getting a rare midweek off, and after the game Rosenior also spoke a little about the rotation decisions he had made in the team.

Mamadou Sarr made a confident debut tonight, and Rosenior was also full of praise for the defender, who he knows well from their shared time in France.
