We’re reaching the critical stage of this January transfer window – with just over a week to go, deals are hotting up all over the place.

New names are being mentioned all the time, and top source David Ornstein has just mentioned a totally new option for Chelsea.

An exclusive from the Athletic’s transfer man claims that Chelsea are considering signing Douglas Luiz from Juventus on loan for the rest of the season.

The Brazil international is apparently seen as a “system fit” for the Blues, and would add “quality, experience and depth” until the summer.

Luiz is struggling for minutes at relegation threatened Forest, who he joined on loan from Juve in the summer. He’s started just twice in the Premier League since October, when new manager Sean Dyche took over.

That’s not too promising – but he did have a great spell at Aston Villa which led to the Italian giants buying him for more than £50m the summer before last. Chelsea would be hoping that he could rediscover that form.

It’s easy to see where he would fit, alongside Moises Caicedo in a double pivot. Although that would block Andrey Santos’ development, and potentially Romeo Lavia’s (were the Belgian ever to be fit).

It’s also noted by Ornstein that Luiz has also had some injury issues in the last few months – which explains in part his lack of contribution at Forest.
