CA Osasuna director Braulio Vázquez says Sunderland-linked Victor Muñoz’s future will hinge on the player’s wishes. The 22-year-old has a £34m release clause.

"It depends on the player's own wishes. He has had some opportunities, but at no point did he consider leaving because, as I said and as he himself has pointed out, he is in the right environment to continue growing," he told DAZN.

Earlier, Vázquez said Osasuna did not entertain approaches and stuck to the clause, adding that Muñoz remains grateful to the club and that neither side is currently contemplating a departure.

It was suggested earlier this month that Sunderland made multiple approaches in January, with an initial £17m bid and an improved £21m package both rejected. Osasuna are said to value him at £34m, the clause in his deal, and to be unwilling to compromise given Real Madrid would receive 50% of any fee.

Reports have also indicated that Madrid retain a buy-back option but have opted against an immediate return. Barcelona-born Muñoz, a left-sided attacker and Real Madrid academy graduate, joined Osasuna last summer and has five goals and four assists in 27 games. He is under contract until 2030.
