Oskarsson could be the surprise inclusion in Real Sociedad’s XI at Son Moix on Saturday. According to AS, the Iceland forward is being considered to start against Mallorca after impactful cameos, with form and rotation both counting in his favour.
It precedes Wednesday’s Copa del Rey semi-final return against Athletic, a place in the final at stake. Some key attackers could begin on the bench, with Atlético de Madrid to follow in the league on Saturday.
At 21, he has revived his situation in Donostia and looks assured. Despite his age he captains Iceland, and his numbers reflect that maturity. This season he has five goals in 241 minutes, four in LaLiga from 208 and one in the Copa del Rey in 33. Last season he managed seven in 1,458, three in the league and four in the Europa League.
That upturn follows fitness setbacks. Last term was interrupted by injuries, and early this season he suffered a rectus anterior problem after matchday three at Oviedo’s Carlos Tartiere, missing many games. He later left the Osasuna cup tie soon after coming on, only a scare, and the €20 million paid to Copenhagen now looks as though it could yet be justified.
Support from the txuri-urdin stands has lifted him, with fans adopting a Bad Bunny chant that namechecks Sevilla and Oskarsson. That bond has helped him feel important. With the derby against Athletic looming, Mallorca could be the platform to show he is ready to start.
