Corinthians president Osmar Stabile travelled to Argentina on Thursday to negotiate directly with Talleres over the debt from Rodrigo Garro’s 2024 signing. According to Itatiaia, the trip forms part of efforts to steady finances and avoid another transfer ban.

The São Paulo club had sent three offers worth about R$ 32 million, all rejected. Even so, the club sees scope for fresh talks after earlier resistance from the Argentines, which was shaped by friction between Talleres chief Andrés Fassi and former Corinthians president Augusto Melo.

Relations improved once Marcelo Paz took over as football executive. At his unveiling he praised Fassi, easing tensions, and days later Fassi publicly reciprocated. A visit to Argentina had been on the board’s agenda since.

Corinthians viewed the first bids as a test to gauge Talleres’ willingness and the terms it might accept, with dialogue revived by the Argentine club. Settling the row is a priority and has even stalled the signing of São Paulo midfielder Alisson.

The dispute dates to February 2025, when FIFA ruled against Corinthians and ordered a payment of around R$ 32 million to Talleres. The figure covers the transfer amount plus interest, taxes, damages and legal costs.

Talks are being led by an internal restructuring group at Parque São Jorge. The same committee resolved issues tied to the signings of Félix Torres and Matías Rojas, drafted the 2026 budget and presented the financial plan to Cori in December.
