Newcastle United will welcome Liverpool at St. James’ Park on Sunday as they look to secure a positive result at home in the Premier League. The Magpies suffered a loss on penalties versus Strasbourg recently, which could have drained their confidence somewhat ahead of this game.

Matthias Jaissle will set his players up in a 4-2-3-1 formation and is expected to name a strong first XI for this clash. Thus, William Osula will probably get the nod to lead the charge for the Tyneside club on the offensive end of the pitch.

Defence

Lukáš Horníček will play in between the sticks for the Magpies as he looks to keep a clean sheet at St. James’ Park this weekend. Malick Thiaw will operate alongside Sven Botman at the heart of the Newcastle backline as they look to keep the Liverpool attackers frustrated throughout the 90 minutes.

Amar Dedic will fill in as the right-back, while Lewis Hall hopes to catch the eye on the other side as the left-back. Both of them will have to pick and choose their moments to join in on the attack.

Dan Burn will provide cover for the defensive positions on the bench.

Midfield

Aladji Bamba and Jacob Ramsey will anchor the midfield for the Tyneside club as they try to win the 50-50 battles in the middle of the park and engineer some decent chances on the counter.

The talented trio of Harvey Barnes, Yoane Wissa and Anthony Elanga will play just ahead of them as part of the Newcastle attack. All three of them need to be at their best if the Magpies are to secure a result this weekend.

Lewis Miley and Jacob Murphy will have to settle for a place on the bench as they await their chance to shine in the second 45 minutes if required.

Attack

William Osula will lead the line for the Tyneside outfit up top. He has to figure out a way to cause some problems for the Liverpool centre-backs this Sunday.

Nick Woltemade will have to be content with a spot on the bench and might come on to influence the game in the final quarter if needed.
