Manchester United fans are probably tired of being reminded of how far they have fallen as a football club, but sometimes the memories of the glory days are simply too good.

This Paul Scholes thunderbolt exactly 17 years ago is one such memory.

Facing 2006 champions Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals, United came back for the second-leg at Old Trafford with the score at 0-0, Cristiano Ronaldo having missed a penalty.

With little room for error in the days of away goals, nothing but a win would do, and Scholes provided it with the only goal of the game after just 14 minutes.

And what a goal it was, entirely fitting to win a game of such magnitude.

United would go onto Moscow and defeat Chelsea on penalties to lift their third European Cup, and claim the double alongside the Premier League title.

Nowadays, Ruben Amorim is just looking to qualify for the Champions League via the Europa League, but maybe this serve as some inspiration ahead of a semi-final clash with another LaLiga outfit.
