Dango Ouattara scored the only goal of the game as Brentford won at Villa Park despite Kevin Schade being sent off in the first half.

Unai Emery was able to give Douglas Luiz and Tammy Abraham 're-debuts' against the Bees but it ended up being a tough Sunday afternoon for Villa.

Things appeared to be looking promising when in the 42nd minute Matty Cash won the ball off Kevin Schade. With both players on the floor, Schade inexplicably put his foot into the midriff of Cash as he got up with the Poland international making the most of it.

It was a pretty easy red card decision for referee Tim Robinson though as Schade was sent off.

Despite being down 10, Brentford took the lead when Ouattara somehow managed to find the net from an acute angle.

Villa thought they had levelled things early in the second half when Abraham had the ball in the net. However, VAR intervened with the ball having been out of play 19 seconds before.

The home side kept trying to get on to level terms against the 10 men who defended strongly despite having inferior numbers.

Indeed, even as the game headed in a 100th minute Villa just couldn't find a way through giving Brentford what looked like an unlikely three points earlier in the game.

That result dealt a blow to any potential Villa title challenge with Emery's side closer to fourth-placed Man Utd (five points) than the league leaders (seven points). For Keith Andrews though that was a superb three points that puts the Bees up into seventh in the table.
