Mexico continues its preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and this Friday earned a 2-0 win over Ghana in Puebla, in a friendly match that featured standout performances from the 5 Chivas players called up by Javier Aguirre. Raúl Rangel, Luis Romo, Brian Gutiérrez, Roberto Alvarado and Armando González all saw action and left positive impressions ahead of the world tournament.
The Guadalajara players were included in El Tri’s starting lineup. Rangel started in goal, Romo played in central defense, Gutiérrez in midfield, Alvarado on the right flank and Armando González up top. All of them continue making a strong case to secure their place within the World Cup squad, with a couple of friendlies still to be played.
The match started in the best possible way for our Rojiblancos, as Brian Gutiérrez took advantage of a mistake in Ghana’s buildup and opened the scoring for Mexico with a long-range strike across goal. The Chivas midfielder once again showed personality and the qualities needed to become an important piece for El Tri on the road to the World Cup.
Roberto Alvarado was also heavily involved in attack, appearing both out wide and cutting inside from the right wing, while Luis Romo contributed an assist on Mexico’s second goal after delivering a great low pass into the box. As for playing time, Armando González and Raúl Rangel each played 45 minutes, with the Chivas goalkeeper once again keeping a clean sheet. Romo and Alvarado played 62 minutes, while Brian Gutiérrez came off in the 71st minute.
Mexico’s next preparation match will take place on Saturday, May 30, against Australia.
