Few, when he first arrived at Paris Saint-Germain, would have predicted such a rise for Ousmane Dembélé (29). He, however, was convinced that leaving FC Barcelona was “the best decision” for the rest of his career.

“In my case, it was time to leave the club. Even though I was very attached to Barça, whom I’ve supported since I was a child,” he explained in an interview with Marca. “But for me, it was important to sign for Paris Saint-Germain.”

A decision largely driven by Luis Enrique, whose words “immediately convinced” Dembélé. “He explained his plans to me, his vision of my role in his team and how he envisaged our future together at Paris Saint-Germain,” the French forward explained.

The rest of the story is well known. From a talented but fragile player when he signed for PSG in 2023, Dembélé has become the very face of a club that is now a two-time Champions League holder.

With a string of impressive performances, the Parisian number 10 even saw his progress rewarded with a Ballon d’Or last season, a symbol of the hard work of a player who has rediscovered his effectiveness, reliability and consistency. A player on whom France today intend to rely as they attempt to win the third World Cup in their history.
