Antoine Griezmann (33) shocked the football world when he announced that he would be retiring from international duty earlier this month.
His retirement came at a time when he remained an integral part of the France set-up. Not only was he the most capped player in the squad, but he also had an important role in the dressing room as vice-captain. It is currently unclear who will succeed Griezmann as vice-captain of Les Bleus, however, it has now become clear who will inherit his No.7 jersey.
As per L’Équipe, it is Paris Saint-Germain winger Ousmane Dembélé (27), who will take the vacant No.7 jersey. The former Barcelona winger will wear it during the upcoming international break and beyond, the publication understands. Dembélé had previously worn the No.11 jersey.
As well as former vice-captain Griezmann, captain Kylian Mbappé is also absent from the France squad. However, unlike the Atletico Madrid forward, Mbappé will return. In his absence, it is Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku who is expected to wear the No.10 jersey.
